NAFCO joined the mssions to Mars through the work completed for NASA’s test stands at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. This three year project included the detailing, connection design, fabrication and erection of over 4,500 tons of steel. The test stands will be used for static testing of the liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen fuel tanks for the new NASA space vehicle programs. NAFCO’s detailers and in-house engineers worked closely on a team with NASA and other contractors to produce constructible solutions that met the rigorous demands of space travel. For our work on this project, NAFCO received the coveted Engineering News Record “Best Project Award” in the southest region and the national “Best of the Best” award in the specialty construction division.
