Last week, the NAFCO team reached a defining moment in one of the most ambitious US coal infrastructure projects in recent history, the setting of the final truss on a 10-mile overland conveyor system that spans through the heart of Alabama.
What began as a massive vision years ago has steadily taken shape through 739 steel shipments, over 4 miles of shop-assembled trusses, and thousands of fabricated components delivered from our Cullman, AL facility. Among those shipments were 288 bents each carefully positioned and secured with the final one set last week alongside the last truss. With each load, we moved one step closer to reality, and last week, that vision was locked into place as the final truss was set.
To mark the occasion, NAFCO hosted a lunch on-site with our crews and contractors, a well-earned pause to recognize the people behind the progress. As the last truss was lifted and secured, we took a moment to look ahead, celebrating not just what we’ve built, but what it will make possible.
This conveyor system will play a vital role in streamlining coal transport for years to come, improving safety, reducing truck traffic, and supporting global steel production. It’s a win for efficiency, sustainability, and Alabama’s coal economy.
We’re proud to have played a leading role in bringing this project to life and grateful to everyone who contributed along the way, from shop floor to job site. The final truss may be in place, but the impact of this project is just beginning.
739 loads. 10 miles. One team. Here’s to what’s next.
